As chess is a board game often described as a "mental sport," this reveals that he possesses high intellectual capabilities, contrary to his usual demeanor. He also possesses great athletic ability; during Flight Lessons, he stands on his broomstick and catches birds with nonchalant ease. He is also one of the few people who can speak to Malleus without fear—even going so far as to get into verbal sparring matches with him.
